About Gypsy Lane Designs

I have been doodling, painting and brainstorming ideas for as long as I can remember; I always knew I wanted my career to be art-related. But I never quite knew how I wanted to utilize my creativity. My degrees in Surface Pattern Design (yes you read that right!) and Art Education led me to careers as a Textile Designer and Art Teacher. But in the recesses of my mind, I always wanted to quench my thirst for creating my own designs.

Gypsy Lane Designs began with the encouragement of some family members. I wasn't very familiar with Etsy, but after spending a few minutes browsing the site, I was convinced that this whole thing was pretty awesome! At first, my shop consisted of an eclectic mix of my paintings. And then, as fate would have it, a friend of a friend requested a painting for her children's room. I didn't know it at the time, but this simple request would sparkplug my business into what it has become today.

The timing was right. There was a baby boom among my friends, and by sharing my personalized children's artwork online, I began picking up a lot of business. More importantly, I found my niche. I really love what I do. It was such a natural progression, and sometimes I can't believe that I didn't think about pursuing children's artwork a long time ago. I love the freedom I have as an artist to make my children's designs whimsical, imaginative and fun.

My vision for Gypsy Lane Designs became even more clear when I found out I was pregnant. As an artist with  a love for decorating, I immediately got excited about planning out the nursery. Frankly, I found there was so much baby and kid's decor out there that was cheesy, cheap and generic. When I work on my products for Gypsy Lane Designs, I strive to make them all top quality by using top quality supplies. I strive to create pieces that are sophisticated and can grow with your little one- something you are proud to display in their room. I strive to make something you cannot find anywhere else- that's the beauty of buying handmade. I also strive to create a piece that simply makes you smile :)
